Daily School Life in Australia

Have you ever wondered what school life is like in Australia? Have a read of our blog to find out!

We have a different school uniform for Winter and Summer. This is our Winter uniform. In Summer the girls wear cotton dresses and the boys wear shorts and a shirt. Everyone wears a hat outside because the sun is very strong here. We also have a school bag which is part of our uniform.

We bring our snack and lunch to school in a lunch box. We have a 30 minute break for snack and an hour long break for lunch.

We love technology! At our school, we use laptops, Commboxes and Ipads to help us learn. We also use robots such as Bluebots.

Even though we have some high tech devices, we still use our trusty old textas, rubbers and pencils.

We read our work off the whiteboard.

We play outside on our playground.

We learn spelling words each week.

Is our day different to your day at school? We would love to read your comments.

  1. Hello from Mobile, Alabama. We enjoyed reading about your school day. We especially love the summer/winter school uniforms because we are always hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It is the 1st of September and the hottest part of the year here. Your school schedule sounded great to us. We are middle school students (ages11-14) and we have very little free time at school. Our snack is eaten in 2nd period and our lunch break is only 35 minutes. We do have a physical education (PE) class but it isn’t free time.
CHCA is a Christian school and we have a chapel service each Thursday where we worship through singing and Bible study. Sports are a big deal at out school. In this class we have volleyball, football (American), soccer, tennis, golf, basketball, and baseball athletes. This math gaming class is an elective where we play math games and learn about new technology. Thanks for sharing with us. Please visit our blog at http://www.kidblog.org/class/tharps-math-gamers.

    1. Dear Mrs Tharp’s Math gamers,

Thank you so much for your interesting comment. We loved hearing about school in America.
We had a few questions for you:
Do you wear school uniforms? If so, what do they look like?
Do you have lunch boxes at school or do you eat in a cafeteria?
Do you have drink taps (water bubblers) at your school?

Your blog looked very interesting but we weren’t sure if we were able to leave you a comment.

We look forward to hearing from you.

  2. We are also from Alabama. Our school is in Birmingham. We loved reading about your school day. We do not wear uniforms. Kids can wear what they want as long as they follow school rules. We have a 15 minute snack time and a 25 minute lunch period. We playing on our playground, too. We are going to get a brand new one in October. Technology is a favorite of ours as well. We have 10 Chromebooks and 7 iPads. We just started typing our first narrative on Google Docs. Thanks for answering our math question on Twitter.

    1. Dear Miss Mac’s 2nd Graders,

Thank you for your comment. Do you have a class blog? If you do, we would love to read it.
We have a great idea…would it be possible for you to share some of your narratives with us on Google Docs? We love doing our work using GAFE.
We think it would be fun to wear no school uniform. Most schools in Australia have to wear a uniform.
Do you have a class pet? We have 4 stick insects. Their names are Beyonce`, Taylor, John Cena and Messi.

  4. Hello from Marysville, Washington in the United States. Here is it fall right now and we just got back to school in September. We do not wear uniforms at our school but have to come ready for rainy fall weather. Our kids love to use technology as well and we think your playground looks like alot of fun.
